LINGUISTIC ATLAS OF RIF BERBER The Atlas provided in Mena B. Lafkioui (2007) and freely downloadable on https://atlasrif.wordpress.com/ is a milestone in Berber geolinguistics and comparative linguistics, not only because of its original analytical findings but also because of its pioneering methodological framework, which was needed in order to get valid data of the highly complex Rif Berber language continuum (i.e. Tarifit, including Iznasen and Senhaja), which at that time was partially under-resourced and partially endangered. The Rif Berber Atlas also fills the gap left in Berber geolinguistics since Basset (1959). Moreover, the Atlas is the starting point of a range of qualitative and quantitative classifications of the linguistic varieties of the Rif area, which include computational algorithmic classifications (dialectometry and lexicostatistics) and complexity phenomena (e.g. Lafkioui 2008, 2013, 2018, 2020, and various relating articles downloadable on this site on the publication page as well as on https://atlasrif.wordpress.com/).
